Adoptable Animal Relief Program

FCHS’s animal adoption program is set up to be self-sustaining in that adoption fees cover basic expenses, such as vaccinations, spay/neuter, and flea/tick/heartworm preventatives. However, the reality for many animals coming out of the county’s animal control facility and into our program is a lifetime of poor to no medical care and, in severe instances, a history of abuse, neglect, or untreated medical conditions. For example, about 25% of the adult dogs in our program test positive for heartworms, and treatment can run into the hundreds of dollars. Still others suffer from skin conditions, severe matting, or ear and eye problems. Occasionally, dogs and cats in our foster program require expensive emergency medical care to ensure optimal health and future quality of life.

Veterinary expenses are the single-largest cost incurred by FCHS, followed closely by veterinary medical supplies. Our modest adoption fees do not always cover the costs of medical care. Your tax deductible contribution to FCHS can be specifically designated for our Adoptable Animal Relief Program, which provides funds ONLY for injured animals in the FCHS foster program. It’s easy to contribute. Simply click on the “donate” button and use your credit card or send a check to FCHS, PO Box 338, Youngsville, NC 27596. Please note “AARP” in the memo on your check.

Thank you for helping us help the dogs and cats of Franklin County!
